About

This started with one small annoyance.

Every room in the house had exactly one light. It lived in the middle of the ceiling, it came on at full strength or not at all, and it was the wrong light for almost everything anyone actually did in the room. Reading in bed under it felt like being interviewed. Eating under it felt like a cafeteria. The only way to make a room feel calm at night was to turn it off and sit in the dark.

Once you notice that, you start noticing the rooms that get it right. They are never the ones with more light. They are the ones with light in more places, lower down, and warmer. A lamp on a side table. Something soft on a wall halfway along a hallway. A small glow by the bed that you can leave on without it keeping anyone awake.

What we actually do

We look for lights that do that job, and we are fussy about a short list of things.

Warm before bright. Colour temperature changes how a room feels far more than wattage does. Almost everything here runs warm, and most of it dims.

Light where you are. Low, and off to the side. A lamp beside the bed or a sconce along a hallway will do more for a room than any single bulb in the ceiling.

No wiring where we can help it. A lot of the best places to put a light have no power point and no switch. So a good part of the range runs on a battery, charges over USB, and sticks or screws to the wall in a few minutes.

Made to be lived with. Timber, aluminium, acrylic and soft silicone. Plain shapes that hold up and do not date, and a few that are unashamedly a bit of fun, because a night light shaped like a duck is allowed to exist.

What we are not

We are not a lighting showroom and we are not trying to sell anyone a whole scheme. Most of what makes a room feel better after dark is small, sits low, and costs very little. That is the part we care about.

We also do not write our own reviews, invent specifications, or pad a product page with claims the maker never made. If a description here is short, it is because that is all we actually know.

Getting in touch

The fastest way to reach us is a message on Instagram. We read everything, and we would rather hear that something was not right than not hear it.
